Urban UK rap newcomer Saint releases established EP 'Lucid'

Having dropped his debut EP ‘Lucid’ at the end of January, Saint has been making waves in the notoriously difficult UK rap scene.

The genre has grown massively in the past decade and remains a relatively new addition to the UK music mainstream. Though, from the the first track off the record, it’s evident that Saint has the potential to make it and move above the competition, which BBC Introducing has too noticed, hailing Saint as “the next to blow in the urban scene”.

‘Adrenaline’ underlines Saint’s intentions from the off, with a quick-fire beat; intricate, enunciated raps, the artist immediately showcases his ability with the mic, which he maintains throughout the tracks to follow. Casually throwing in lyrics like “I got telekinesis, they think poltergeist” into the well-crafted flow in ‘Distant Dreams’ probably indirectly expresses Saint’s disdain for the hordes of Soundcloud, mumble rappers who claim to occupy his counterparts’ genre, while it evidences the rappers hesitancy to shy away from complex song structure.

The temporary abandonment of flow every now and then to make way for a overtly aggressive, longing out of a lyric every now and then really packs a punch and enables a single word within a track to be put on pedestal, while it brings a rather uncanny resemblance to the emerging UK rap frontrunner Slowthai, which is no small compliment.
