Soul stalwarts Raw Soul Express have exemplified their timeless ability in new single ‘Fate Of The World’.
The latest track, released 45 years after the band’s first album, is an amalgamation of funky baselines, jazzy flashes of sax, neat finger-picked guitar and a prevalent drum beat that the legend Bernard Purdie himself would be proud of.
With the addition of keys necessary to denote lyrics on the Black Lives Matter Movement, COVID-19 and other societal issues plaguing the world, Raw Soul Express make up for lost time in addressing everything important in today’s climate.
The overriding soul genre of the track is tied together succinctly with the vocals, ensuring the track is a joyful pleasure to listen to, despite the juxtaposition of the formal issues the song tackles.
Retaining all the original core members of the band from their last release almost five decades ago, the funky outfit have impressively kept all their prowess in the genre, certifying them to be nowhere at all out of place alongside today’s more contemporary jazz, soul artists.
