From first impressions, End of the Walls is a record that embraces vulnerability , and harnesses the raw emotions that can be expected from the rising star Easton Guillory.
Opening single ‘Fake’ has a classical and theatrical vibe to it. Shuffling into view with its string arrangement and grooving melodies, while the vocals Easton delivers has a theatrical and stage quality to them. It’s a welcome change to the creative process, one that sees Easton at his best.
Through the stripped back intimacy of ‘Always with You’ comes the moving tale of Easton’s battle with grief at losing his father, as the song takes on the perspective of a dead father to his son. This lead single dives straight into the heyday of the genre of indie with a touch of prog rock. With Easton’s heartfelt vocals carrying the track with a backing of acoustic guitar.
In the titular single ‘End of the walls’ Easton performs an energetic almost spoken word narration of his experience with working class culture. Probably my personal favourite song off the EP, as the experimental style of instrumentation goes perfectly with Eastons erratic style of narration.
‘End of the walls’ is a fantastic EP. The experimental sounds have opened up many avenues for Easton to explore, and that freedom is shown throughout. Each song comes with a distinct personality and delivers different shades of sound to the ears, which I absolutely love. The amount of variation in this record is unreal. Be sure to check it out.
