The 606 Club has become one of Chelsea’s most recognisable music institutions. Established in 1976, it began as a small basement venue on Kings Road and developed into a respected independent club with a national and international reputation.
Now based at 90 Lots Road, the Club continues to host live performances and support musicians from across the UK. Its atmosphere, programming and sense of community have helped it endure for five decades in a changing cultural landscape.
Steve Rubie’s leadership has been central to the venue’s story. A professional musician who studied Classical Flute at Trinity College London, Rubie took over the Club in October 1976 and has guided its development ever since. His services to music were recognised in 2019 when he received the Worshipful Company of Musicians’ Lifetime Achievement Award.
The 606 Club’s 50th anniversary celebrations will take place throughout October 2026. As the Club looks back on five decades of performances and memories, it remains committed to the principle that has defined it from the beginning: letting the music speak for itself.
