Jazz artist Lorna Reid is set to make waves with her forthcoming album, “I Will Tell Your Story,” slated for a March 2025 release. The album’s lead single, “Sweet Baby Blues,” will be available for streaming on November 23, 2024. This release marks Reid’s continued evolution as a prominent figure in the jazz music scene.
“Sweet Baby Blues,” co-written with Darden Smith during a retreat in the Scottish Highlands, departs from Reid’s typical full-band jazz sound, opting instead for a more intimate arrangement. The track features a blend of gentle piano, a poignant saxophone solo, and Reid’s commanding vocals, creating a raw and emotional piece.
“I Will Tell Your Story” is an exploration of untold narratives through jazz, blues, and soul, featuring both introspective ballads and energetic tracks. Reid cites inspirations ranging from jazz greats like Ella Fitzgerald to the eclectic sounds of Joni Mitchell and X-Ray Spex, resulting in a unique musical offering.
The album was recorded in Scotland, with financial backing from Creative Scotland, and involved sessions at Castle Sounds Studio, Grans House, and Chem19. Esteemed musicians such as multi-instrumentalist Gustaf Ljunggren and producer Boo Hewerdine lent their expertise to the project. The album was finalized with mixing by Jon Kelly and mastering by Nick Watson, ensuring high-quality production standards.
In 2025, Reid will perform at several venues, including Linlithgow Jazz Club on March 1st, Ayr Jazz Club on March 7th, and the Northwest Castle Jazz Weekend from October 10-12th. These live performances will offer audiences a chance to experience Reid’s innovative approach to jazz firsthand.
Through “I Will Tell Your Story,” Lorna Reid continues to demonstrate her artistic depth and creativity, cementing her status as a significant voice in contemporary jazz.
