Pioneering artist and pianist Mortenissimo, known for his compelling reimaginations of classical pieces, is set to thrill audiences once again with his latest release – Debussy [extended]. The album, dropping on 28/11/24, features six extended versions of original works by famed composer Claude Debussy, seamlessly blended with Mortenissimo’s own compositions.
The lead single, Clair de Lune [Extended], which came out on all platforms on July 22nd, has already given listeners a taste of the innovative and refreshing sound that Mortenissimo brings to the table. The track, an extension of Suite Bergamasque’s third segment, has been expertly crafted to maintain the essence of Debussy’s original while introducing new musical elements and doubling its length. In his own words, Mortenissimo shares, “Clair de Lune was, without a doubt, the most challenging piece for me to extend.
This work holds a special place in the hearts of so many, so I felt a responsibility to honor Debussy’s original vision while still introducing new musical material throughout the piece.” His aim was to create a deeper sense of reflection and connection with the music, especially in the slower and more contemplative sections of the track. The same thought process can be seen in all six tracks on the album, including Arabesque No.1, Rêverie, Ballade, Mazurka, and Prelude from Suite Bergamasque. Along with the album, Mortenissimo will also be releasing accompanying literature, providing a detailed breakdown and his personal reflections on each track. A graduate of City University, Mortenissimo’s deep admiration and understanding of Debussy’s works have allowed him to seamlessly blend past and present in this project. His interpretations stay true to Debussy’s unique style and compositional techniques, while also adding a contemporary twist.
